BUBİ "ICONS"

DG Art Gallery & Projects | Piyalepaşa

April 2 - April 29, 2026

Icons centers on the concept of the icon, a defining element within Bubi's artistic practice developed over many years. Historically associated with sanctity, authority, and representation, the icon is reinterpreted in the artist's work as a fluid construct—one that is continually reshaped through cultural memory, everyday experience, and contemporary visual culture.

Within Bubi's practice, the pictorial surface functions not merely as a site of representation but as a layered structure that bears the traces of time, intervention, and memory. Bringing together paint, collage, textiles, metal, gold leaf, and industrial materials, the works establish a distinctive visual language in which material operates not only as a formal element but also as a conceptual one.

By forging connections between traditional iconography and contemporary visual culture, Bubi's works reconsider the boundaries between the sacred and the everyday, the personal and the collective, the past and the present. In doing so, the icon is understood not as a fixed symbol but as a dynamic field through which cultural codes, collective memory, and systems of representation are continuously renegotiated.

The exhibition brings together a selection of works that reflects both Bubi's distinctive visual language and his sustained engagement with material experimentation. Icons offers a comprehensive perspective on the artist's practice while opening a space to reconsider the contemporary relevance of representation, memory, and the icon.
