The Ghanaian painter explains himself and his art with the words, “I’m not interested in painting something beautiful to hang in your home. I want my art to create a connection with people, to be a symbol everyone can relate to. Regardless of what you’ve experienced or where you live, I want my art to help people reflect on and explore their inner worlds.”

The “Flowing Fertility Baby” figure found in Kojo Marfo’s works holds great significance for the Akan people. The Akan view themselves as a united nation, and the term “Akan” means “Above all else.” Representing civilization and enlightenment, the “Flowing Fertility Baby” figure is reinterpreted by the artist with softer, more rounded lines. Through this, the artist aims to convey universally meaningful emotions such as dignity and sincerity to art lovers through iconography.
