Nourished by different disciplines of art and combining figurative expression with a humorous perspective, Şahin Demir has become the guest of Maxx Art Gallery with his new exhibition.
The artist’s unique and striking selection of works was unveiled to art enthusiasts the other evening. The opening reception, which will remain on view until August 31, 2025, welcomed distinguished guests from society, business, and the art world, including Pervin Ersoy, Revna Demirören, Mehtap Özdoğan, Nesligül Aksoy, Zafer Kozanoğlu, Aysel Akçay, Ece Nayman, Rabia Polat, and Fatma Kurtkaya.
Blending figurative painting with an ironic and surreal narrative, Şahin Demir invites the viewer into a universe that both provokes thought and elicits a smile. With exaggerated facial expressions, bold use of color, and theatrical staging, the artist presents the absurdities of everyday life interwoven with references to social norms. Each composition encourages the audience to question the story behind the ordinary, while Demir’s narrative world establishes a delicate balance between humor and critique.
His distinctive visual language oscillates between a fairytale-like atmosphere and the edges of hyperrealism, with figures whose theatrical postures create a direct connection with the viewer. The intensity of the colors, the grotesque nature of the figures, and the spontaneous feel of the narration unite all the works under a common emotional tone. The lightness that permeates the paintings merges with layers of meaning beneath, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary painting.
This special selection of works by Şahin Demir, presented in collaboration with DG Art Project, is on display at Maxx Art Gallery, located within Maxx Royal Bodrum. The exhibition can be visited until August 31, 2025.
