“When text is placed within a pictorial element, it becomes part of the image and gains strength,” says calligraphy painter Emrah Yücel, who has brought his latest exhibition—offering a unique aesthetic—to art enthusiasts. Inspired by messages drawn from a divine source, the artist’s exhibition was met with great interest.

Calligraphy Painter Emrah Yücel’s Exhibition “You Have One Unread Message” Opens at DG Art Project
The exhibition “You Have One Unread Message” by calligraphy painter Emrah Yücel, curated by Zeynep Öztürk, opened with a special gathering at DG Art Project. Emrah Yücel, who emphasizes that writing is more than just letters, believes that the relationship between meaning and form exists in calligraphic art just as it does in painting. His exhibition, inspired by messages drawn from a divine source, draws attention with its distinctive aesthetic.
The opening was attended by art enthusiasts including Maria and Yahşi Baraz, and Gizem Tatlıcı, who explored the artworks with great interest.
Describing his artistic approach, Yücel states:
“By incorporating text into the painting, I amplify its power and guide the viewer’s perception. In doing so, I aim to convey long-form texts I find worthy of being written—verses from the Qur’an or shared narratives from all Abrahamic religions. I want the harmony of colors to blend into letters, words, and sentences—like a riddle.”
Yücel uses custom-designed fonts within a mathematical structure that balances readability and composition. This harmony between color and content transforms the text from something simply readable into something visual and experiential.
“A text that is merely read is often forgotten over time. But when embedded within an image, it becomes a part of the painting and gains strength—remaining in the viewer’s memory as a vivid, lasting picture.”
His works stand out with a puzzle-like aesthetic in which shape-based, figurative compositions carry meaning both in parts and as a whole.
The exhibition will be on view at DG Art Project until April 5th.
