ŞAHİN DEMİR x MAXX ROYAL

Combining figurative painting with an ironic and surreal expression, Şahin Demir invites the viewer to a universe that both makes one think and smile. With exaggerated facial expressions, striking use of color, and staging technique, the artist draws attention and presents the absurdity of everyday life together with references to social norms in his works. Each composition directs the viewer to question the story behind what is ordinary, while in Demir’s narrative world humor and criticism establish a delicate balance.

The artist’s unique painting language moves within the boundaries of a fairytale-like atmosphere and hyperrealism, while the theatrical stance carried by the figures establishes a direct contact with the viewer. The intensity of the colors, the grotesque temperament of the figures, and the improvisational feeling of the narration bring all the works in the exhibition together under a common emotional tone. The sense of lightness carried by the works, combined with the strong layers of meaning underlying them, offers a different perspective on contemporary painting.

This special selection consisting of Şahin Demir’s works meets art lovers at Maxx Art Gallery, located within Maxx Royal Bodrum, in collaboration with DG Art Project. The exhibition can be visited between 14 – 31 August 2025.

ABOUT ŞAHİN DEMİR
Born in Mardin in 1987, Şahin Demir completed his undergraduate education at Selçuk University Faculty of Fine Arts. Bringing together figurative language with a humorous attitude, the artist invites viewers to step outside the usual in his works created with exaggerated facial expressions, a vivid color palette, and surreal details. In addition to the solo exhibitions he has opened in Turkey, Demir has also taken part in international group exhibitions held in Romania, Moldova, and the United States. He continues his work in his studio in Istanbul.
