Devrim Erbil’s Selections Meet Art Lovers at DG Art Gallery

An exhibition bringing together distinguished works from different periods by Devrim Erbil, one of the leading figures of Turkish painting, opened its doors to art lovers at DG Art Gallery in Piyalepaşa on September 14, 2023. Curated by Zeynep Öztürk, the exhibition offers a comprehensive view of the artist’s practice, presenting works that reinterpret Istanbul’s visual memory through his distinctive linear language.

Curated by Zeynep Öztürk, the exhibition brings together works produced over the past 20 years, in which Erbil depicts the Bosphorus, the Golden Horn, and the architectural structures of the city from various perspectives. Having held numerous solo exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad, Erbil presents not only his oil paintings but also giclée prints and carpet works in this exhibition. Taking Istanbul and its architectural structures as recurring subjects, the artist brings together large-scale canvases depicting abstractions of nature and Anatolian variations, alongside carpets described as part of Turkey’s weaving heritage, presenting them to collectors within the exhibition.

The “dual perspective” approach, which occupies a significant place in the artist’s production, is among the prominent elements of the exhibition. This visual construction, formed through the superimposition of multiple perspectives, proposes new ways of thinking about space and perception while revealing the experimental dimension of Erbil’s artistic practice. The exhibition also includes tapestry works in which the artist’s compositions are reinterpreted through contemporary weaving techniques, as well as giclée prints aimed at making his art accessible to wider audiences.

Reflecting important phases of Devrim Erbil’s artistic journey, this special selection brings together standout works from the artist’s production over the past 20–25 years, offering viewers a comprehensive panorama. The exhibition provides an opportunity to closely experience the artist’s unique visual universe constructed through line, rhythm, and color.
