Vik Muniz, born December 20, 1961, in São Paulo, Brazil, is an artist and photographer renowned for using unconventional materials such as chocolate syrup, sugar, dirt, and garbage in his work. He began his career in Brazil and moved to the United States in 1984, settling in New York in 1986. Muniz represented Brazil at the 49th Venice Biennale in 2001. The 2010 documentary "Waste Land" showcases his collaboration with workers at the Jardim Gramacho landfill in Rio de Janeiro and won awards at the Sundance Film Festival.
