Tomás Sánchez, born on May 22, 1948, is a Cuban painter and printmaker. His works often feature serene forests, water landscapes, and sometimes large piles of garbage, creating a stark contrast between nature and human influence. Known as one of the most expensive living Cuban artists, Sánchez received his art education at the National School of Fine Arts San Alejandro in Havana and graduated from the National Art School in 1971. In 1980, he won the Joan Miró International Drawing Award, marking the beginning of his international career. His works use a strong visual language that often blends natural landscapes with subtle social commentary.
