Markus Lüpertz
Markus Lüpertz, born on April 25, 1941, in Czechoslovakia, is a painter, sculptor, and poet regarded as one of the leading figures in contemporary German art. He began his artistic career in 1961 as an independent artist in Düsseldorf and co-founded the Grossgörschen Gallery in 1964. In 1970, he received the Villa Romana Prize, which allowed him to spend a year in Florence. He started teaching as a professor at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts in 1986 and served as its rector until 2009. Lüpertz is known for his "dithyrambic painting" style, which blends abstract expressionism with figurative elements. His works draw inspiration from mythology, history, and cultural imagery, prompting deep reflection from viewers. In addition to paintings, he has gained attention for his sculptures and poetry. Since 2003, he has been publishing the art and literature magazine "Frau und Hund."
