Kojo Marfo
Currently working from his studio in London, the artist focuses on globalization and cultural hybridity in this mature phase of his career. Represented internationally by prestigious institutions such as JD Malat Gallery, Marfo explores the invisible bonds between different ethnic groups and the feeling of "otherness" in his recent works. Telling the stories of the African diaspora to the world through a universal artistic language, the artist continues his rise in the contemporary art scene, closely followed by international collectors and art critics.Kojo Marfo, born in Ghana in 1980, is a multidisciplinary artist currently practicing in London, synthesizing West African traditions with Western modernism in his work. Drawing inspiration from the traditional iconography of Akan culture, particularly fertility dolls (Akuaba) and ritual masks, Marfo reinterprets these ancient forms with a contemporary aesthetic. Behind the vibrant color palette and stylized figures, he develops a unique language that explores universal themes such as gender, identity, and mutual aid; thus offering both visual richness and profound sociopolitical critique.
