Born in Santa Monica, California, Kate Pincus-Whitney moved with her family to Santa Barbara at the age of 1.5. Growing up in an artistic family, her mother was an artist in Los Angeles, and her grandfather was an experimental filmmaker in the 1950s and 1960s. Diagnosed with dyslexia and stereo-blindness (difficulty perceiving depth) at a young age, Pincus-Whitney turned to art as a means of expression. After completing her undergraduate studies at Sarah Lawrence College, she received the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Fellowship to attend Yale Norfolk in 2015. She then pursued her MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating in 2020. Pincus-Whitney's art revolves around the concept she terms the "theater of the dinner table." By depicting everyday objects with vibrant colors and dynamic compositions, she explores the relationship between food culture and identity. In 2020, she showcased her series "Theater of the Dinner Table" during her MFA exhibition at the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2021, the artist held her solo exhibition "Feast in the Neon Jungle" at Fredericks & Freiser Gallery in New York. Additionally, she was featured in Forbes' "30 Under 30" list for art and design in 2022. Pincus-Whitney's works have been exhibited on international platforms such as Anat Ebgi Gallery in Los Angeles and GNYP Gallery in Berlin. She continues to explore the interplay between food culture, identity, and societal dynamics in her work.
