Josh Sperling was born in 1984 in Oneonta, New York. He grew up in an artistic family—his grandfather was a sculptor, and his father was an art teacher. Sperling’s early interest in art was shaped by influences from artists like MC Escher and Roy Lichtenstein. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from SUNY Potsdam in 2006. Sperling’s work is inspired by the minimalist painting movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He is known for his shaped canvases and vibrant color palette. Drawing inspiration from design and art history, he creates works that blur the lines between painting and sculpture. This innovative approach pushes beyond traditional artistic boundaries, forming a new language in contemporary art. Throughout his career, Sperling's works have been featured in prestigious collections worldwide. His works have been exhibited at major institutions such as Arsenal Contemporary Art in Montreal, Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, and Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai. Sperling has collaborated with Galerie Perrotin, organizing numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally.
