Fernando Botero Artist Image

Fernando Botero, born in 1932 in Medellín, Colombia, is one of the world’s most renowned contemporary artists. Known for his exaggerated, voluminous figures, Botero developed a unique style characterized by oversized forms, round shapes, and vibrant colors. This style, known as Boterismo, is his distinctive aesthetic that he uses to explore social, political, and cultural themes. Botero’s most famous works include large sculptures, portraits, and large-scale oil paintings. His art is often populated by exaggeratedly large figures, round forms, and corpulent characters. Through this visual exaggeration, Botero challenges traditional Western aesthetic norms and uses his works as a form of social critique. He also reflects Colombia’s history, culture, and social structures, enhancing the influence of Latin American art in the global art scene. Botero’s works have been exhibited in major museums and collections around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Additionally, many of his large sculptures are displayed in outdoor spaces, further expanding his global presence.
