Eric Fischl is an American painter, sculptor, and educator born on March 9, 1948, in New York City. He completed his art education at the California Institute of the Arts, graduating in 1972. From 1974 to 1978, he served as a faculty member at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. ​ Fischl is renowned for his works from the 1970s and 1980s that delve into American suburban life and its underlying complex psychological themes. He is considered a significant figure in the Neo-Expressionism movement. His art often explores subjects such as sexuality, identity, and the hidden aspects of human relationships. One of his notable works, "Bad Boy" (1981), depicts a young boy observing a naked woman, exemplifying his provocative and thought-provoking style. ​ Fischl's works are exhibited in esteemed museums worldwide. Throughout his career, he has been featured in numerous publications and is recognized as a leading figure in contemporary figurative art.
