Benrei Huang
Benrei Huang is an artist born in 1959 in Taipei, Taiwan. She studied fine arts at National Taiwan Normal University and earned her MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1992. From 1988 to 2008, Huang primarily worked as a children's book illustrator. Since 2008, she has focused on painting and sculpture, often featuring a recurring rabbit-like figure named "Nini" in her works. Through Nini, Huang explores themes such as grief, loneliness, existential angst, and environmental degradation. Her works have been exhibited worldwide, and in 2021, her painting "Why Shop for New Fashion When You Are Naturally Stylish" sold at a Hong Kong auction for a price significantly exceeding its estimated value.
