Avery Singer
Avery Singer, born in 1987 in New York, where she continues to live and work, is celebrated for her innovative approach that merges technology with traditional painting techniques. After graduating from Cooper Union in 2010, she began creating digital illustrations using 3D modeling software, specifically SketchUp, which she then airbrushed onto large-scale canvases. In her work, blocky, grayscale figures rendered with 3D modeling software perform romanticized activities associated with artistic production. Her paintings nod to Cubism and Constructivism, while her use of digital software creates a new way of engaging art historical references. Singer's works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Venice Biennale in 2019. Her paintings are held in the collections of prestigious institutions such as the Whitney Museum, Hammer Museum, and Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2018, her painting "Fellow Travelers, Flaming Creatures" (2013) sold at Sotheby's for $735,000, more than six times its high estimate.
