André Butzer
André Butzer, born in 1973 in Stuttgart, Germany, is a German painter renowned for blending European Expressionism with American pop culture, creating a unique universe he terms "Science Fiction-Expressionism." His works often feature cartoon-inspired figures with large eyes, inflated heads, and white gloves, reflecting both the innocence of childhood and an artificial lifelessness. In 1997, Butzer co-founded Akademie Isotrop in Hamburg, fostering a critical and avant-garde artistic environment. He has collaborated with prestigious institutions such as Kestner Gesellschaft and Carbon 12, and his works are housed in significant collections including MOCA Los Angeles and LACMA.
