André Brasilier, born on October 29, 1929, in Saumur, France, is a French painter hailing from an artistic family; his father, Jacques Brasilier, was a symbolist painter, and his mother, Alice Chaumont, was also an artist. ​ In 1949, Brasilier enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, studying under Maurice Brianchon. He won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1953, which allowed him to reside at the Villa Medici in Rome from 1954 to 1957. ​ His artworks often depict themes of nature, music, and women, characterized by vibrant colors influenced by Fauvism. He portrays subjects like horses and landscapes in a dreamlike and mystical manner. ​ Brasilier's works are internationally recognized, with a significant retrospective held at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg. He was awarded the Florence Blumenthal Prize in 1952 and the Prix de Rome for painting in 1953.
