Alicja Kwade is a Polish-German contemporary artist born in 1979 in Katowice, Poland, currently living and working in Berlin. She studied sculpture at the Berlin University of the Arts, graduating in 2005. ​ Kwade employs various media, including sculpture, installation, film, photography, and works on paper, to create pieces that challenge perceptions of reality. Her work often explores concepts such as time, space, science, and philosophy, encouraging viewers to examine the boundaries between reality and illusion. ​ In 2019, she created "ParaPivot" for the rooftop garden commission at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This installation featured stone spheres resembling planets, supported by metal frames, prompting reflections on the structure of the universe and humanity's place within it. ​ Kwade's works have been exhibited in numerous prominent galleries and biennials worldwide. She is represented by esteemed galleries such as Pace Gallery, 303 Gallery, and Galleria Continua.
