Alex Israel
Alex Israel, born in October 1982 in Los Angeles, is an American multimedia artist, writer, and designer. His work includes large, colorful airbrushed paintings of abstract gradients and Los Angeles skies, self-portraits painted on shaped fiberglass panels, and multimedia installations constructed from movie-house props. Growing up in Los Angeles, Israel earned a BA from Yale University in 2003 and an MFA from the University of Southern California's Roski School of Fine Arts in 2010. Throughout his career, he has reflected the cultural iconography of Los Angeles and the clichés of the Hollywood film industry in his work. His art invites viewers to look beyond the city's glossy surface and question its cultural mythology.
