Alejandro Garmendia
Alejandro Garmendia (1959-2017) was a Spanish photographer and painter born in San Sebastián. He lived and worked in France and New York. In his art, he employed imaginative imagery and physically impossible objects that questioned the aesthetic structure of landscape and architecture. His works invite viewers into an altered perception of reality by disrupting logical connections to the physical world. He graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao in 1985. Throughout his career, he held solo exhibitions at Madrid's Galería Masha Prieto and Galería Antonio Machón, as well as at New York's Generous Miracles Gallery and Houston's McClain Gallery. In 2007, he exhibited alongside Andreas Gursky, Jan Fabre, Per Barclay, and Man Ray in the "Perceptions" group show at Madrid's Reina Sofía Museum. His works are included in the permanent collections of the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid and the San Telmo Museum in San Sebastián.
