Lynne Drexler (1928–1999) was an American painter known for her contributions to Abstract Expressionism and landscape painting. Born in Virginia, Drexler studied under Robert Motherwell at Hunter College and Hans Hofmann at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Active in the New York art scene during the late 1950s, she developed a distinctive style that fused abstract compositions with elements of nature. In the late 1960s, she relocated to Monhegan Island in Maine, where the landscape and island life deeply influenced her work. Her paintings became increasingly colorful, patterned, and filled with organic forms. Though her work was long overlooked, it has recently gained renewed attention, positioning Drexler as a significant female figure in 20th-century American art.
