MESUT İKİNCİ Artist Image

Mesut İkinci (b. 1994) completed his undergraduate studies in Painting at the Atatürk Faculty of Education, Marmara University, between 2013 and 2019. His work has been presented in national and international group exhibitions, biennials, and various art platforms. İkinci's practice focuses on the invisible mechanisms organized within everyday life. He treats concepts such as security, classification, bureaucracy, ceremony, and announcement not as mere objects of representation, but as structural organizations operating through space, body, and repetition. These structures produce an order that positions, directs, and often operates imperceptibly for the individual. In his works, figures are often positioned within specific arrangements; a sense of organization is established through surfaces, voids, and repeating forms. Questions about what security protects, how classes are differentiated, how bureaucracy creates an invisible flow, and how ceremonies establish a shared stage are revealed through indirect rather than direct narrative. The language of the announcement and advertisement constitutes both the visible face and the legitimizing layer of this structure. The artist, rather than focusing on representation, establishes a relational space, placing the viewer within these mechanisms; proposing a felt organization rather than a distinct narrative. This approach offers a layered reading that oscillates between the visual and the structural. The artist, who worked in New York for a period, continues his production in his studio in Cihangir, Istanbul.
