AHMET YEŞİL
Born in Mersin in 1954, Ahmet Yeşil received painting education between 1973 and 1985 in the studios of painter Nuri Abaç, İlhan Çevik, and sculptor Ernür Tüzün, and has come to the forefront as one of the important names of Turkish painting with a production spanning many years. Continuing his work in Mersin, the artist has held numerous solo exhibitions and has taken part in national and international exhibitions and art fairs. In Ahmet Yeşil’s paintings, rhythm, movement, and surface relations play a determining role. Especially in his compositions developing around the form of rope, knot, and twist, he establishes a dynamic visual language through repeated linear structures and strong use of color. This formal structure creates both an abstract and lyrical expression in the artist’s works. In his paintings, the artist brings forward the sense of light, balance, and flow, turning the surface into a moving field. Layered use of paint and a rhythmic sense of order are among the main characteristics that show continuity in Ahmet Yeşil’s works. Having opened numerous exhibitions throughout his long artistic life, and with his works included in various private collections and institutional holdings, Ahmet Yeşil continues his work in his studio in Mersin.
